Literature Text

I told them I hated you -
Because I should,
For everything you've done to me.

I drew marks of anger
And hate around your picture,
Yet I couldn't get myself
To ruin the image of your face.
The face I knew so well.

My friends saw
And encouraged me to do more,
So I scratched red gashes across your face.
But I could still see your eyes,
Behind those bloody marks.
You were still recognizable to me
As who I had known.

My friends held out their hands
For the utensil
With its leaking ink,
So that they could do some damage too.

They covered you,
And hated you,
Like they believed I hated you,
And when they handed you back to me,
I couldn't recognize you at all.

But that's what you had become to me.
Love and Hate walk hand in hand.

^^ Interesting concept. It's easy to see the hate. Hard to see much love.
